Foods and Drinks to Avoid with Veneers

Taffy, caramel, and other kinds of gooey or sticky candies may loosen the bond between your new veneers and your teeth. Avoid these treats until your veneers are securely adhered in place, but only have candy on rare occassions.

Hard Candies

Jolly Ranchers, jawbreakers, and seasonal favorites like candy canes can shift your veneers out of place. They can even lead to chips and cracks as well, so it’s important to keep these matters in mind.

Chewing Gum

While chewing gum is soft and not too sticky, it can have a negative impact on your porcelain veneers. Be sure to avoid having chewing gum until your dentist gives you the okay, and only go with sugar-free gum from now on.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds are healthy treats, but their crunchiness can pose a few problems when it comes to your veneers. You’ll want to avoid these healthy snacks until your dentist says otherwise just to be on the safe side.

Popcorn

Light popcorn is another healthy snack to consider, but the little bits from the kernel could get caught between your teeth and trapped by your veneers. Rather than risk these problems, consider taking a break from popcorn for the time being.

Crispy Raw Vegetables

Carrots, celery, and other crispy vegetables can give your teeth a lot of trouble early on if you have porcelain veneers in place. Rather than risk damage to your veneers or other problems, wait to eat crunchy vegetables until your dentist gives you the okay.

Crunchy Fruits

Just like crisp vegetables, apples, pears, and other crunchy fruits can be challenging to eat when you first get porcelain veneers. Stick with soft fruits at first before taking a bite out of a juicy apple.

Tough Meats

Steak, jerky, and other touch meats can lead to a lot of biting, chewing, and tearing. If you have just gotten veneers, this can lead to problems with stability and position. Try to have softer meats or more tender meats at first.

Ice

Chewing on ice is a bad habit, and it can cause damage to your veneers in the short run and the long run. After getting veneers, be sure to avoid chewing on ice cubes for the sake of your dental health.

Soft Drinks and Sugary Beverages

Soda, sugary fruit juices, and carbonated beverages in general can cause major wear and tear to your teeth. Try to avoid these kinds of drinks to prevent cavities and tooth erosion from occurring.
