Kathy Russell is a dental hygienist at Contemporary Dental Arts, P.C., in Williston, Vermont. She enjoys educating our patients about the link between periodontal health and overall health, especially the connection to heart disease and diabetes. Many adverse health conditions have symptoms that present in the mouth, and regular checkups are the best way to protect yourself from all types of diseases.

Kathie Russell

Kathie Russell graduated from the University of Vermont with her Dental Hygiene Degree in 1977. She began her career in Vermont before moving to Alaska for 10 years. It was in Alaska that she took an interest in and began taking continuing education courses specific to treating periodontal disease. She became certified in the administration of local anesthesia and began implementing a soft tissue therapy program into her philosophy and treatment of her patients.

Kathie has been with Dr. Shanard for twelve years. She has continued in her philosophy to try to help her patients maintain their periodontal health. She finds it rewarding to educate her patients not only in the health of their mouths, but in the general health of their entire body as well. She is proud to be part of the team of professionals at Contemporary Dental Arts.

Kathie believes in family life and is a country girl at heart. She enjoys gardening, walking in the woods, and any activities that result in a "sweat". She loves numbers and does the bookkeeping for her husband's construction business. She believes in volunteering and was the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Deborah Rawson Library for 3 years, has participated in the Breast Cancer Fund Raiser Dragon Boat Races, and was a volunteer for Catholic Youth Ministry for 10 years. She and her husband are the proud parents of two grown sons and live in Underhill.

Penny Wells Scheduler & Financial Coordinator

Penny is the friendly voice you hear on the phone when you call our office. Penny is also the financial and insurance specialist for our office and coordinates the appointment schedule as well. Having worked in dental office administration and management for over 20 years, Penny enjoys working one-on-one with patients to assist them in achieving their treatment goals in an affordable way.

“Developing relationships with patients is the best part of my job. I joined Dr. Shanard’s practice in 2012 and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to work in a practice that specializes in cosmetic dentistry. I am amazed at the time and care that Dr. Shanard puts into every patients case. Her skills and abilities are amazing and it shows in the beautiful smiles she creates. I’m delighted to be a part of such a great team!”

Penny and her husband David live in Underhill and have one grown son.
